Here’s What Makes Rapping More Difficult Than Singing, According To TWICE’s Nayeon

She rapped for her unit song “HELLO” with Momo and Chaeyoung.

Previously, the TWICE members chose Nayeon, Momo, and Chaeyoung‘s unit song “HELLO” as their favorite song from the Formula of Love: O+T=<3 album—although Nayeon and Momo surprisingly can’t stand listening to it.

“HELLO” is a fun, energetic song that incorporates many rap parts. Nayeon even tried her hand at rapping!

TWICE’s Nayeon

She talked about the experience in an interview with SBS radio show Love Game and shared why she had such a hard time. For one, the recording process was more difficult than she expected.

The recording was very hard. I had in my mind that I just wanted to indecisively challenge myself in rapping, but it was quite difficult.

As vocalist, she couldn’t help comparing it to singing. Rapping the lyrics and putting emotion into it wasn’t a smooth process for her. She may be accustomed to doing it for singing but found it harder when rapping.

Whenever I sing, I have to focus on the lyrics and put my emotions into it, which is still hard, but I’m more used to it. But putting my emotions into these rap lyrics really wasn’t easy.

— Nayeon

Above all, she found it more difficult than singing because it was necessary to exude a ton of confidence. “And I’m supposed to have 100 times more confidence that what I have now,” she noted.

In spite of the challenges, at the end of the day, she genuinely enjoyed the entire experience. Who knows? Maybe she’ll rap again for the next album!

But because it was a new experience, it was hard but fun.
