Aspiring K-Pop Idol from Poland Worries She’s Not Asian Enough to Succeed in Korea

“I don’t think Korea would respond favorably to a non-Korean becoming an idol in Korea.”

On the most recent episode of Mnet’s Study Abroad Girl, Luna from Poland expressed her worry that despite wanting to be a K-Pop star, she might not be well-received in Korea since she’s not Korean.

Luna is a student who has been studying by day and practicing K-Pop dances by night for the last 3 years in hopes of becoming a K-Pop idol one day.

When a producer of the show asked Luna how she would feel if she was offered a trainee position, Luna responded, “I’d be very happy, but I’d have to think about it. I don’t think Korea would respond favorably to a non-Korean becoming an idol in Korea.

In response to Luna’s confession, the other girls on the show nodded with sympathy and Maria from America added, “Many foreigners who like K-Pop have this perception that people shouldn’t become K-Pop stars if they’re not Asian.

When Ha Sungwoon heard this, he offered some words of comfort by sharing, “I was also rejected by many agencies, and I didn’t even have an agency at 20 years old. But I took that time to make myself better.

He then added, “After that, I finally got an opportunity from Produce 101 which made me glad that I didn’t give up. That’s why you shouldn’t give up either.
