The BTS Songs That Inspired ENHYPEN’s Jake While Writing “SHOUT OUT”

When writing lyrics for the first time, Jake needed a few pointers.

Fans were overjoyed by ENHYPEN‘s Jake receiving writing credits on “SHOUT OUT” from their latest album, MANIFESTO : DAY 1. Since it was the idol’s first time writing lyrics, he revealed that a few songs from their HYBE seniors BTS helped him along the way.

Using fans as inspiration for the lyrics, Jake imagined “the audience at a concert and how it would feel performing while looking out at that.” To find the perfect way to convey that beautiful moment through lyrics, he looked to BTS.

Because the demo of “SHOUT OUT” was introduced as a type of fan song, Jake analyzed how BTS nailed the concept by using beautiful metaphors.

BTS has a lot of fan songs, like ‘Magic Shop’ and ‘Mikrokosmos.’ I listened to the way the lyrics describe their fans as stars in the night sky and a city night scene. I looked for a lot of expressions like that.

As a Korean Australian, Jake realized his limitations in Korean vocabulary but didn’t let it stop him. He admitted, “To be frank, I have no problem speaking in Korean, but I can feel the language barrier when I’m writing lyrics because I’m limited in the way I can express myself for now.

As Jake writes more lyrics, those creative and beautiful metaphors their BTS seniors are so gifted at will soon become a talent of his as well.
