BLACKPINK’s Rosé Reveals What Truly Makes Her Happy And Keeps Her Grounded

She’s “On The Ground” for sure!

BLACKPINK‘s Rosé had a successful solo debut last March. The title track of her album R was none other than “On The Ground,” a song about keeping one’s self grounded no matter what point they’re at in their lives.

In an interview with the Zach Sang Show, Rosé touched on the meaning behind the track and shared how it relates back to her life.

When asked what keeps her “On The Ground”—referencing her title track—she knew the answer right away. First and foremost, her family was her rock when she made the huge decision to move from Australia to South Korea to become a trainee.

When I was a trainee, I think my family meant the most. I think they were my biggest happiness.

Her passion and love for music also kept her sane throughout the years.

My love for music was most important. I didn’t care about what other people thought. It was just me enjoying it, like ‘Oh my god, I love singing in this tiny room for 7-8 hours. Because I just enjoy it.’

As she grew more famous, however, she also become increasingly tired with her work. Through her album, Rosé wanted to remind herself about the things that keep her grounded.

But as soon as you start to get things out of it, that’s when you start not enjoying it. And I felt like just checking back into those things—family, my love for music—it’s really simple, it’s not even that big.

— Rosé

“On The Ground” was meaningful as she remembered that her family and music are her constant sources of happiness and strength.

I hope this song reminds us that we just gotta stick to what [we] actually started these things for.
